Chapter 2

Meryl couldn’t believe her eyes, the former chief engineer of Metal Gear REX during the Shadow Moses Incident was here in front of her.

Meryl: What are you doing here?

Otacon: Working, what else. It’s been a while hasn’t it.

Meryl: Yeah, it has been. So, you working here now?

Otacon: Yep. Ever since the government dropped its charges against us.

Meryl: Us? Oh, you mean Snake as well. Don’t tell me, he’s here, too?

Otacon: Uh…well. He’s out in the field right now. That’s all I could tell you.

Meryl: So, are your anti-Metal Gear activities over?

Otacon: No. I wouldn’t say Philanthropy is finished. It merged with FOXHOUND, so now, it’s main focus is destroying hostile Metal Gears.

Meryl: How’s Snake doing?

Otacon: He’s never been better in fact even though, he doesn’t show it. I think he’s glad that we don’t have to hide anymore.

Meryl: I’m real sure.

Otacon: I have to go. I have something to do here.

Meryl: Oh, I’m sorry. Didn’t mean to take out of your time.

Otacon: It’s alright.

Otacon leaves and heads into the operations room.

Meryl: (I wonder how Snake is doing.)

Outside of FOXHOUND Base, Town, Café

In the crowded café, Solid Snake, wearing dark jeans, tan boots, and a tannish button-up shirt wearing a pair of black Oaklee sunglasses; watches two men, as he smokes his favorite brand of cigarettes. He sees one of them exchanging a briefcase. Otacon, contacts him through his Codec.

Otacon: Snake, what do you see?

Snake: I see two men exchanging a briefcase, contents unknown.

Otacon: Do you think it could be the Uroburos virus?

Snake: Who knows, I can’t get a good look at it.

Otacon: Follow him. If we lose him, we lost our only lead to know if the rebels have bio-weapons.

Snake: Got it.

The man with the briefcase gets up, Snake, too, did the same thing. He followed him through the crowds. Snake wasn’t really too proud to be back working with an organization that was founded by the same man who betrayed his country but he seemed to adapt it after FOXHOUND changed. FOXHOUND received a tip about the Tanzanian rebels have been receiving bio-weapons that was rumored to be Tricell’s Uroburos. FOXHOUND investigated into this, wanting to avoid another Kijuju.

Snake followed the man into a building that looked like a warehouse. The front was guarded by the rebels. He looked around and goes to the side of the building. He climbs the rusty pipe up and made it to the roof. He goes over to the window and presses a button on his shades, which is a gadget to give the user tactical information, record, and also acts like a pair of night vision goggles in the dark. He records the man giving the briefcase to a rebel wearing a red beret. He sets in on the table and opens the case. Snake zooms on the content of the case. It was confirmed. The rebels were in possession of bio-weapons.

Snake: Otacon, did you get all that?

Otacon: Yes, we did, Snake. Good job, so far.

Snake: Now, what?

Otacon: The objective plan stays. You need to get out of there. The colonel is discussing plans for the next steps to this operation. Move to the extraction point.

Snake: Got it.

Snake got off the roof of the warehouse and back into town. He avoided dragging rebel attention to himself as it won’t be such a good idea with all the civilians walking around. Collateral damage will hurt FOXHOUND’s reputation. As Snake was about to reach the ends of the town, his Codec rang. He pressed his neck, activating it.

Snake: Yeah?

Colonel: Snake, are you at the extraction area?

Snake: Yeah.

Colonel: There’s been a change in plans. We can’t risk the rebels getting the chance to use the Uroburos. You’re going to be the man on the ground. We’re proceeding with the operation. Rendezvous with Drebin, he has your gear. He should be back at the café.

Snake: (sighs) Roger that.

Snake walks back to the café and finds Drebin, with his pet monkey, Little Gray on his shoulder, drinking his soda as always. Drebin notices his favorite customer.

Drebin: There’s my favorite customer. Come on, back.

Snake followed Drebin to the back of the café where Drebin’s APC was parked as he points to a metal container.

Drebin: Your gear is in there.

Snake opened it and took out something that looked like suit.

Snake: What’s this?

Drebin: OctoCamo suit.

Snake: OctoCamo?

Drebin: A suit that mimics the abilities of an octopus whenever you come into contact with a surface the suit will replicate that pattern and texture making you camouflaged and also applies thermal technology to regulate the temperature to help blend in with the environment better. It also doubles as a muscle suit making you bit stronger, not like that you don’t need it. Ask your partner for the full details of this suit. Also, you’d be needing this. (Pulls out something that looked like an eye patch and hands it to Snake.)

Snake: What’s this?

Drebin: Your partner called it the Solid Eye. I believe it gives you tactical information on items, vehicles, and any living person. It also has a binocular functionality and an enhanced night vision mode. Try to remember though; you can’t use these all at once. You can use one at once. Well, what are you waiting for? Put it on.

Snake gets out of his regular clothes and puts on the suit as he also wrapped and tied his blue bandana under his brown hair. He then puts the Solid Eye on his left eye. He then puts on the tan vest. He then inspects his weapons to see they’re in good condition.

Drebin: Alright. You look like you’re ready to go. (Looks at his watch) The operation will begin shortly. I marked a rendezvous location on your map. Go to it. You’re to make contact with a team. (Starts to head towards his APC) Be careful, it’s going to be a warzone. (As he enters the APC) Eye have you.

The door closes and the APC leaves the area. Snake heads on over to his objective.

FOXHOUND Base, Airfield

Squads were heading into choppers for the operation. Rat Patrol Team 01 head into a UH-60 along with Chris and one of his partners, Sheva Alomar.

Chris: Okay, let’s go over the plan one more time. Once, we reach the ground we are to rendezvous with our contact.

Meryl: Let’s try not to get separated as it’s going to get real hot once the operation begins. Questions?

Johnny raised his hand…

Meryl: (Felt annoyed) Yes, Akiba?

Akiba: Um…who’s our contact?

Chris: Classified at the moment. Anything else?

No one raised their hands, as the chopper lifted off and flies into the warzone.
